Garren
The New York stylist behind decades of editorial covers
Garren (credited simply by his first name) opened his New York salon in the early 1970s and has been cutting and styling hair at the editorial top for the five decades since. His clients have included Linda Evangelista, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, and a continuous list of magazine covers. He moved his salon to the Sherry-Netherland Hotel in the 2010s and continues to work today.

Linda Evangelista's short crop
The cropped, slightly tousled cut Garren gave Linda Evangelista in 1988 that re-defined what a supermodel could look like and accelerated the era's editorial appetite for short hair.
Sleek voluminous blowout
A polished, voluminous, deliberately glamorous blowout with movement at the ends. Garren's signature for clients wanting straight-out-of-the-salon shine.
Classic chic bob
A precise chin-length bob, cut blunt with attention to the line at the jaw. Garren has been cutting variations of this shape since the seventies.

Why their work matters
Garren has cut hair for a longer continuous editorial run than almost any stylist still working. The short crop he gave Linda Evangelista in 1988 alone changed how supermodels were photographed for the following decade, and the polished bob he keeps cutting has carried his name through five decades of fashion. Newer stylists often cite Garren in interviews when explaining where they learned their cutting standards.
