How do I know my skin undertone?
Look at the veins on the inside of your wrist in natural light. Blue or purple veins suggest cool undertones. Green veins suggest warm undertones. A mix of both suggests neutral. Cross-check by holding silver and gold jewellery against your skin: silver flatters cool, gold flatters warm, both work fine on neutral.
Your skin undertone (warm, cool, or neutral) is independent of your skin's overall shade. People with pale skin can have warm undertones, and people with deep skin can have cool undertones. Undertone decides which colours flatter you in clothing, makeup, hair color, and accessories.
Quick at-home checks: wrist veins (blue and purple are cool, green is warm), the jewellery test (silver vs gold), and the reaction to white versus cream clothing (pure white tends to suit cool undertones, ivory tends to suit warm). Combining the three tests gives a reliable read for most people.
